A Slackware System For The Rest Of Us!
A VMware virtual machine created by Centauri Computer Works
Have you ever longed to play with Slackware Linux but were put off by the (totally untrue) horror stories told about installing Slackware? Then you've come to the right place!
Here is a Slackware 10.2 Linux system already configured for VMware Workstation 5 or Player. This virtual machine includes most packages that would be installed by default, including X and KDE. The X Windows system has already been configured and the VMware Tools are installed. All you need to do is download it and fire it up in VMware.
Download the Slackware Virtual Machine (570MB)
The virtual machine has been configured as follows:
- Linux 2.4.31 kernel with SCSI support
- 256MB memory for virtual machine
- 800 x 600 display
- 12GB virtual hard drive with 9GB free
- Bridged networking configured by DHCP
There two user accounts, root and netadmin, with the password set to slackware
for both accounts. Once you login, you can run KDE by typing startx at the
command prompt. Beyond configuring X Windows and installing the VMware tools, nothing else has been done and
it's ready to be further configured by you, all of which is beyond the scope of this document.
